Data we process
We process account identifiers and profile data received through Google sign-in; annotations, source links, selected text, screenshot regions and optional audio; comments, follows, likes and bookmarks; plus basic technical data needed for security and operation.
Browser extension and webpage access
The Annotated extension has access to website hosts so its persistent side panel can stay synchronized as you move between tabs. While the side panel is open, the extension reads the active page URL, title, author or publisher metadata, relevant media information and your current text selection. It can capture only the screenshot region you deliberately select and records audio only after you press the audio-note control and grant microphone permission. Annotated does not build or sell a browsing-history profile, does not read password fields and sends captured content to your account only when you choose to publish an annotation.
Purpose and legal basis
Account and content data is processed to provide the service and its requested features. Security logs and abuse prevention support our legitimate interest in operating a safe product. Where consent is required, such as microphone access, the browser requests it before capture.
Service providers and transfers
Supabase provides authentication, database and file storage infrastructure. Google provides optional OAuth sign-in. These providers may process data outside the EEA under their applicable safeguards and agreements.
Chrome Web Store Limited Use
Annotated's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We use extension data only to provide or improve the user-facing annotation service; we do not sell it or use it for personalized advertising. Human access is limited to cases where you give specific consent for support, where access is necessary for security or abuse investigation, or where required by law.
Visibility and retention
Public annotations and profile data can be viewed by anyone. Unlisted content is accessible to people with its link; private content is visible only to its owner. Data remains until you delete it or your account, subject to limited legal, security and backup retention.
Your choices and rights
You can change annotation visibility and permanently delete your account in account settings. Depending on applicable law, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability or object to processing by contacting website@4vor4.com. You may also complain to a competent data protection authority.
